Mark Zumberge is a research geophysicist and senior lecturer at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on the development of new geophysical instrumentation including deep-ocean gravity measurements, seafloor strain, seismometers, and precise pressure measurements using optical fibers.
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Zumberge received a B.S. with distinction in physics from the University of Michigan, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in physics from the University of Colorado, respectively. He completed postgraduate fellowships at the University of Colorado and the National Bureau of Standards in Boulder, Colorado. He joined Scripps, initially as a postgraduate scholar.
Zumberge is a member of the American Geophysical Union, the Society of Exploration Geophysics, the American Physical Society, and the Optical Society of America.
